Favorite Off-Campus Outings in Boston

Being at a university so close to Boston is such a great opportunity to get to know the city!

Foodies Read Here:

  1. Farmers Markets: From barrels of freshly picked honey crisp apples and a baker’s dozen of apple cider donuts, to freshly baked loaves of bread and artisan cheeses and jams, the Farmers Market is a perfect way to feel like you are embracing all New England has to offer. Look like a local by bringing your reusable grocery bag and overflowing it with affordable, healthier, and fresher locally grown food. “Farm to Table” is now more like “Farm to Dorm Room”.
  2. Hungry Girls of Boston: One social media account that conquers the different spots for foodies throughout Boston – both secret and well known – is @hungrygirlsofboston on Instagram. The social media account categorizes your options in their story highlights, where you can click on brunch, sushi, burgers, or sweets. One of our favorite features is Pauli’s in the North End, known for their award-winning sandwiches and lobster rolls.

Adventure Seekers Read Here:

  1. Pop-Up Shops: As you walk down the sidewalks on both sides of Newbury Street, you see popular brand names including AllBird, Nike, Patagonia, and Aritzia. But aside from this well-known street, one popular trend that has been happening around Boston are pop-up shops. These pop-ups stay open for only a few months at a time to give locals the opportunity to expand their brand recognition. One example of this was the popular instagram-storied Glossier pop-up in the Seaport.
  2. Fenway Park: (Pre-Covid) Fenway Park, home to the Boston Red Sox, is a great place to take a selfie with Wally and sing “Sweet Caroline” with a Fenway Frank in hand. The team offers a student 9 program, which is where the first 100 college students in-line (with a college ID present) will receive a $9 ticket to the game.
  3. Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum: Located in close proximity to Northeastern, Wentworth Institute of Technology, Massachusetts College of Art and Design, Simmons University, and Emmanuel College, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum is the perfect off-campus outing. The museum has an interior courtyard garden surrounded by 4 open floors of a unique private art collection.

Fitness Enthusiasts Read Here:

  1. Sweat by Seaport: Outdoor (on the Seaport Common) and Virtual (streaming on Instagram live @seaportbos) fitness classes June through October. It features the city’s most popular and award-winning instructors, is free, and welcomes all fitness levels.
  2. The Esplanade: The Esplanade stretches for 3 miles one way along the Charles River. The river is almost always still, with the blades of the oars of the Harvard and BU rowing teams creating a small current in the water. You can bike, walk, run, or sit by the water with take-out or a picnic.
  3. Classpass: Try a variety of unique fitness classes to see how you like to sweat with Classpass. An app where you can sign up for yoga, strength training, barre, boxing, and cycling classes with one membership. Also..your first month (worth 35 credits of classes) is free so you can always try it out first.

Whether you’re a foodie, an adventure-seeker, or a fitness enthusiast, Boston offers something for everyone. We hope this blog prevents you from searching your Insta feed – and helps you find something new to do in Boston!
