Eat like a URI Student

Whether you’re new to campus or are a proud local, there’s always something to discover about the food scene. Keep reading for the best places to grab a cup of early morning coffee or treat yourself to a nice dinner out.

Breakfast and Coffee

T’s Restaurant

A popular off-campus breakfast and lunch restaurant with locations in Narragansett, East Greenwich, and Cranston, you’ll never find yourself too far away from their Ooey Gooey French Toast. T’s serves pancakes, waffles, eggs benedict, breakfast sandwiches, omelets, fresh fruit, and bakery items. Open everyday from 7am-3pm, T’s is the place to be.

Brewed Awakenings

With locations in Wakefield, Warwick, Cranston, and Johnston, Brewed Awakenings is arguably the best place to grab a coffee in Rhode Island. Fresh brewed coffee with different flavors, frozen drinks, pastries, and sandwiches are just some of what this coffeeshop has to offer. With hours from 5am-9pm on Monday-Thursday, 5am-10pm on Friday-Saturday, and 6am-8pm on Sunday, Brewed Awakenings provides a great atmosphere to start or end your day.

Lunch

Mews Tavern

Located in Wakefield, Mews is a favorite among URI students. This restaurant and bar boasts a wide variety of food, from local seafood to burgers. Opening at 11am and closing at 10pm Sunday-Thursday and 11pm Friday-Saturday, Mews is a great lunch spot. With three varieties of nacho dishes, no one will be leaving hungry.

The Rhode House

Located in the Kingston Emporium, The Rhode House is just a short walk from campus. It offers chicken wings, sandwiches, wraps, and salads. However, the calzones are the most popular among the URI students. This American restaurant is perfect for a quick bite, opening at 11am and not closing until 1am from Sunday-Wednesday and 2am from Thursday-Saturday.

Dinner

Kingston Pizza

Kingston Pizza offers some of the best pizza in the area and is a great choice for dinner. With both on-campus and nearby  locations, Kingston Pizza is worth the stop. In addition to Italian-style pizza, it has different appetizers, subs, wraps, and calzones. Hours vary based on location.

 Trattoria Romana

Trattoria Romana is a more upscale Italian restaurant located in Wakefield. It offers a spacious banquet room, perfect for larger parties. Trattoria Romana offers some delicious appetizers, pasta, meat, fish dishes, and some vegetarian options. Closed Monday-Tuesday, but open Sunday and Wednesday-Thursday from 4:30pm-9pm and Friday-Saturday 4:30pm-10pm, Trattoria Romana is a great choice for dinner.

Dessert

Brickley’s Ice Cream

With locations in Wakefield and Narragansett, Brickley’s is the best ice cream shop to stop by when the weather is warmer. This family-owned shop serves a wide variety of delicious ice cream flavors. Their Narragansett location offers homemade waffle cones and outdoor seating. Brickley’s is open daily from 12pm-9pm in the spring and summer seasons.

Newport Creamery

Newport Creamery offers their famous Awful Awful, which is similar to a shake. It contains whole milk, flavored syrup, frozen ice milk, and your choice of ice cream. Unlike its name would suggest, the Awful Awful is tasty tasty. Newport Creamery has twelve locations in Rhode Island, the closest to URI being North Kingstown. If you find yourself hungry when you get to Newport Creamery, they also serve lunch. Open Sunday-Thursday 7am-11pm, you can satisfy your ice cream craving at any time of the day.
